Patricia Sabin LGSM&D, ARCM
Patricia trained in speech and drama, then singing and piano at the RCM, including a fourth year in the Opera School. She was a finalist in the Maggie Teyte prize.
In opera, first as a mezzo and then as a soprano, Patricia sang with Kent Opera, Opera Rara, ENO and WNO, and performed in concert, oratorio and recording. She also sang with the John Alldis choir and London Voices, performing a wide range of choral works including backing Pink Floyd in “Atom Heart Mother” and in contemporary works such as Messiaen’s “Cinq Rechant”.
Patricia Sabin has sung a wide range of operatic roles: Carmen (Carmen, Bizet) The Countess (Figaro, Mozart) Norma (Norma, Bellini) Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica, Puccini) and Sieglinde (Die Valkyre Wagner) among them.; some Music theatre also in Novello’s “King’s Rhapsody”.
She gave many recitals of Lieder; and French, English and American song. She has recorded two CDs of Victorian music.
She has had a long association with “Music in Hospitals”, giving concerts for them in many parts of England, Wales and Jersey.
In her studio she teaches varying abilities, ages and styles, from Classical to Pop and West-end performers. Alexander technique, Inner game and Estill are influences. She also coaches in Speech and Drama, and adjudicates.
Patricia formerly taught singing at Mountview Conservatoire and Guildford Conservatoire. She is a tutor at Kingston University.
Patricia mentors singing teacher-students through the ABRSM’s Certificate of Teaching + Diploma in Principles of Teaching, and “Teaching Music Effectively” courses, and has also acted as a consultant to the ABRSM.
As well as her one-to-one work, she has also given singing workshops for beginners and for those who want to gain more confidence in their singing.
At the Oxford School of Drama she acted as external assessor for the end-of-year singing performances.
Patricia Sabin has enjoyed coaching a girls choir with special emphasis on developing the soprano register. She mentored the London CTABRSM course last year. She also continues to coach for the Associated Studios London Three Month Intensive Opera Course and their Four month Music Theatre course.
