Vocal Technique Workshop & Masterclass with Amanda Colliver
As part of our Musical Theatre Masterclass Series, Associated Studios is thrilled to announce its first Vocal Technique Workshop & Masterclass with Amanda Colliver.
Amanda began her career as a singer/songwriter, actress, and recording artist and after graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts Opera Studio in 1982 went on to enjoy a 25 year operatic career as a soloist with all the major Opera Companies and Symphony Orchestras in Australia.
Also a highly respected vocal trainer, Amanda relocated from Melbourne to Sydney in 1998 to take up the position of full time vocal tutor at NIDA where she was responsible for preparing both private and group tuition for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year actors.
In 2004 she relocated to Singapore as the full time Vocal coach for the Lasalle College of the Arts Musical Theatre programme, and was also appointed as the vocal coach for Cameron Mackintosh’s ‘Miss Saigon’ in South Korea and Thailand.
Renowned as one of the few to blur the boundaries between classical and contemporary genres, Amanda is now receiving well-deserved acclaim for her holistic philosophies and alternative vocal methodology.
Most recently she wrote, produced and directed her own musical show ‘WOMAN’ and held the position of resident vocal coach on Melbourne’s production of ‘The Book of Mormon’.
Amanda is the Founder of Akasha Voice Studio where she conducts masterclasses, workshops, private tuition, and life coaching.
“Some teachers are good, others are inspirational. One of the most diverse and talented artists I have ever worked with.”
TONY MCGILL, Musical Director, Arranger, Performer, Program Director LASALLE College of the Arts
The evening will consist of two exciting components:
1. Vocal Workshop- This will be an informative and joyful interactive session in a safe and supportive environment. The focus is not so much on performing, but rather on the technical areas of breath control, vocal placement, support, projection, and register negotiation. Participants will be encouraged to explore the principles discussed and will be guided through any technical difficulties that may arise.
2. Masterclass – Participants will present a song of their choice in what is commonly known as a masterclass. They will then receive constructive feedback and technical suggestions on how they can improve what they have just done. Those watching will often see the singer blossom within as little as fifteen minutes which is not only inspiring but also extremely interesting. To get the most out of the masterclass it is best to bring a song that is reasonably challenging for you and has difficulties you would like to resolve.
“Amanda works with the kind of knowledge and empathy that can only be borne from extensive personal experience. There was no doubt in my mind to whom I would entrust the voices of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor in Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge.”
